I-40 is also closed because of this. All traffic on a 2-lane road, huge backups, I read.

I heard that the clean-up has not started due to flames and toxic smoke.

That explains why I saw milemarker 333 yesterday and 283 today closed when I drove 17 North last night and earlier today!

No estimated time of opening has been announced but word on the street says they’re looking at Monday before they’re even able to start cleaning it up. I-40 remains closed as well

Local news in ABQ has stories of Amtrak coach passengers not getting any help from Amtrak except coach refund. As the RR won't be open until Monday at the earliest, they are stranded there until that happens. Greyhound is no help as I-40 west is still shut down (predicting to reopen later this afternoon). Hotels in ABQ are scarce as the city is hosting "Gathering of Nations" and Native-Americans tribes and members from all over the country are in the city for the celebration. The city is taking notice and may do something. Being the weekend, realtime stories on local news are scare with mainly headlines, weather and news pieces prepared earlier. ABQ Journal has story that firefighting wouldn't begin until Saturday night when the threat of any further gas explosions had passed.

I-40 opened both directions this afternoon but evening news reported delays due to State Police escorting vehicles through area due to possibility of toxic smoke enveloping the highway due to wind changes. Latest from BNSF has one main opened 6 p.m. with second at 11 p.m. Sounds unlikely if some cars remain on fire as local news says is the case; fires are expected to be extinguished tomorrow.

Amtrak has #3 in service disruption and turning in ABQ to become #4, no alternate transportation going west. A check of Amtrak schedules says the first day for #4 to leave LA is Tuesday evening.
