21 + 1 , or a Texas twofer
Author: WrongWayMurphy

Amtrak 21 westbound leaving Mineola for Dallas this morning.

15" gauge train is by Swanee River Railroad Co of Lufkin, Tx

Timing was either well planned by me, or just luck.

Nice video!  The Eagle is just about a glorified bus.

Great timing, yes it is sad to see how short the Eagle has become.

Is the 15 inch gauge more reliable?

At least it has 2 units

Nice video!

Do they run through cars anymore to and from the Sunset Limited?

Is this the Houston Section of the Texas Eagle?

There is no such thing.  This train is Chicago-San Antonio.

Tuesday, Thursday, and Sundays the Eagle train has cars that are added to
the westbound Sunset Ltd at San Antonio for the run to Los Angeles.

The 15" gauge engine so needs a better horn.

I was trying to be a little sarcastic. There was a Houston section many years ago.
That got cancelled around the same time. We lost the Pioneer and Desert Wind

Amtrak is further inhibiting ridership with this current practice of always running just four cars, even on days it interchanges cars with the Sunset Limited. It's combining two markets or two different trains into the same limited capacity train set. Pre-2018 (???) it always had the ADDITION of the "through" coach and sleeper off the Sunset Limited, which made sense. Do they add/subtract a coach at St. Louis any more? And this "four car train set" is not due to not being able to find enough Superliner cars.

For those wondering about what this train looked like BC (before Covid). Here is a video on the NB train at San Marcos Tx - 8 cars including the baggage car

1 Superliner Trans Dorm/Sleeper
1 Superliner Sleeper
1 Superliner Diner
1 Superliner Sightseer Lounge
3 Superliner Coaches

An additional coach and sleeper were added to/from the Sunset Limited on days it connected.

Like the BIG HORN-little horn interaction!
I wonder how often that timing of events happens here?
And I would like to have seen video go just a few seconds longer to hear the little horn complete it's grade crossing honks?
Oh well, this is a very delightful video as it is anyway!

One of the locals that is here often says she never saw the little train and Amtrak together
since the little train came to be 5 years ago.

Amtrak loves to still hide behind the COVID excuse for the reduction in capacity, even 4 years later and well after the pandemic was declared over.

I have a better sounding horn on my bicycle (also sarcastic).

By the way, many of us refer to 21/22 as the Texas Eaglet.

I agree, great little video!
