Passenger Trains > AML Major Delays to Wolverines Today

Today, 350 had a trespasser strike.. It suffered over 3 hours of delay. 355, the equipment turn off 350, likewise was delayed leaving PNT. Train left IT over 2 hours late. That all sounds understandable.

But, just like any other time that calamity hits the AML, there is no plan in place to staff trains.. This is in large part due to closing the BTL crew base (for engineers)...

So we have 354(29) setting at KAL in a holding pattern waiting 355 to arrive BTL.. The crew off 355, works back on 354 to PNT.. MDOT gets the big bonus points today for delaying the third train having no engineer available!

Question do the Conductors also change at BTL along with the engineers or do they work CHI to PNT?

For those of us who have not memorized all the Amtrak location TLAs (three letter acronyms), what is AML?

Stats for service on 4-29..

350(29) arrived FT 3 hr, 52 min late (Trespasser Strike)
351(29) arrived FT OT
352(29) arrived FT 25 min late (Delayed on Host - NS)
353(29) arrived FT OT
354(29) arrived FT 1 hr, 36 min late (No X-Bd Engineer at BTL)
355(29) departed IT 2 hr, 14 min late / arrived FT 2 hr, 11 min late (Equipment turn off 350)

Worth noting is 355 only made up 3 min en-route. Exceed station dwell times at TRM, ROY, ARB, BTL, KAL and NLS. On host road (NS), train did not exceed 40 mph west of Gary, IN due to freight congestion.. Max speed in this territory is 79 mph... Midwest High Speed Rail at it's best..

Good news for Amtrak, starting this month most of the 350-355 turns are cancelled for track work.. That pesky train can't have ATCS failures, trespasser strikes or acts of God! Happy days are here again...
