If U.S. was at war we‘d have clean trains?
Author: prech786

Just to comment on Amtrak's dirty train & window issue here’s a news picture in the NYT out of Ukraine today:

Placards on the train bluntly listed its purpose: “Evacuation.”
Families bundled children and the elderly aboard coaches at the central train station in the eastern Ukrainian town of Pokrovsk.
They stood and waved through the windows as they departed.

The Russian Army is at its doorstep and closing in quickly on Pokrovsk

It seems a country fighting for its existence still appears to have the ability to keep its railroad coaches & WINDOWS clean; in the War Zone!

"Enemy at the gate". I predicted Ukraine would not cave, they are tough bastards, and they are still standing!

Ukraine Rail is running many of its trains on time, too.

I love the fairly recent story of the Ukrainian Railways spokesperson apologizing to his people that their trains were "only" on time by a factor of 90%. Hello, Amtrak?! Hello, US freight railroads?! Anyone home?

How is it that the wealthiest nation on earth has a miserable passenger OTP rate while a country fighting for it's life against the Russian colossus outshines us? US railroads can't even begin to match what the Ukrainian Railways are able to do. Ukrainian passenger trains with a 90% OTP while missiles rain down on them. And clean trains to boot!

I will proudly keep my Ukrainian flag flying outside my home.

They are our allies -- the Russians are our common enemy! They have been for almost all of the past 79 years, maybe before....The Soviets with a different name.  B

Correct! Everyone forgets that the late General George S. Patton, tried to explain to General Eisenhower that the Russians were far more dangerous than the Germans.

Patton had it right, no one else would listen. Same goes today.

Winston Churchill was focused on (re)arming the captured German troops, and using them in a new war against the USSR.  He was convinced after Yalta that Uncle Joe intended to subjugate central Europe as a buffer against the next attack from the western countries.

Harry Truman, now President, did not see any merit in attacking "our ally" and blocked consideration by the US. Churchill lost the 1945 election and the Labour party didn't see a purpose in British workers attacking Soviet workers for the benefit of rich plutocrats. And that was that.

I read a while ago that the head of Ukraine Railways was second out on the Russian hit list, behind Zelenskyy.
(He probably couldn't be hired by an American railroad.)

WOULDN’T is more likely.

People who can’t don’t like being shown up by those that can.

I'm sure Ukraine's trains were clean before the war too. So were Amtrak's pre-Gardner.
