SF MUNI Heritage Weekend Videos

Here's milepost20's great report from his visit last Saturday:

https://www.trainorders.com/discussion/read.php?4,5921267

I attended the event in 2018, and decided to attend again this year. Caltrain's electrification celebration offering free rides gave me the motivation needed, and I visited on Sunday.

During 2018's visit, I caught the heritage trolleys running on the MUNI T Line by the Caltrain station. This time, I guessed (correctly) that they'd be running along the F Line tracks along Market St. to reach the event area at the museum near the Ferry building.

I ran into jimB and fellow SBHRS (South Bay Historial Railroad Society) member Bill at the event. I didn't know at the time, but they were onboard Cable Car "Big 19" in the first clip. Rest of the video should be self-explanatory, using milepost20's report as reference.

Second video (first of this post) has the heritage streetcars running on Steuart St. and The Embarcadero.

I'm joyriding #578 with jimB in the third video.

I recorded video of the SF MUNI buses, as couple of the buses gave me a feeling of travelling backwards in time.

Flyer E800 electric trolley bus (#5300) was everywhere in San Francisco when I was a kid. Rode them a lot. Similar looking AM General Metropolitan diesel bus (#4154) was what I always wanted to ride, in an era when GM's "New Look" buses (a.k.a. "Fishbowl") dominated the popular routes. Smaller AM General buses covered lower frequency, lower ridership, obscure routes away from main thoroughfares, so riding one meant discovering neighboorhoods away from Japantown, Chinatown, Golden Gate Park, and Stonestown Shopping Center.

- AM General Metropolitan
- Powered by Detroit Diesel.

That's it for the report.

Great post, Charles, except for maybe the post of the old guy who looks older than 578. Good seeing you there. It's only a true reailfan event one you're there.

I also have a shot of you trying to get out of my photo while trying to keep me from getting run over. Also one more of 578.

This was a great event. I really enjoyed it other than getting whacked by a wayward sketeboard.

JimB
