Passenger Trains > San Francisco MUNI's Central SubwayDate: 09/29/24 12:19 San Francisco MUNI's Central Subway Author: cchan006 I visited San Francisco last weekend to participate in the MUNI Heritage Weekend. To get there, I rode MUNI's new Central Subway from Caltrain's 4th & King Station to Union Square, had breakfast at Lori's Diner, then walked from Union Square to the Embarcadero.
Why the walk? I wanted to see if The City did a good job of cleaning up downtown. Here are milepost20's past reports of the Central Subway, responsible for my curiosity: https://www.trainorders.com/discussion/read.php?4,5556317 https://www.trainorders.com/discussion/read.php?4,5578657 And broken_link's report which documented parts of Central Subway I didn't: https://www.trainorders.com/discussion/read.php?4,5762872 The two underground stations I recorded video are at Union Square and Chinatown-Rose Pak. The northbound bore curves into Union Square, first clip. Southbound descending to Union Square, second clip. Straight out of Chinatown-Rose Pak, third clip. The transfer from BART at Powell St. --> Union Square is not bad, short walk from the east exit. However, one has to walk across the entire length of Powell St. Station if transferring from Market St. Subway (J, K, L, M, N Lines) which is located on the west end of the BART platform. - There's still a long escalator ride (or stairs) to the T Line platform at Union Square. - Chinatown-Rose Pak Station. I got photobombed by MUNI Bus #15, so I got one more clip of the exiting LRV.
I spotted a Breda LRV terminating at 4th & King, so I waited and got it heading back out as N Judah. After that, I hopped on a Caltrain back home. - Siemens LRV tucked behind Chinatown station, temporarily out of service. - ATCS display at Chinatown station. (Later visit) - Breda LRV heading out of 4th & King. That's it for the report. Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 09/29/24 12:37 by cchan006.
