You think Amtrak would have called buses
Author: GenePoon

You'd think that in midmorning, Amtrak would have called for a bustitution.  Eight-plus hours late (the problem began at 922am) for a Mechanical issue!!!???

They did save a few rubles for Gardner's 2024 bonus, though.

Amtrak did call buses. This would be the equipment moving to Chicago without people.

So in affect, we had the old Midnight Special back between St. Louis and Chicago for one night, admittedly without passengers.

What else is new, ever since they bought those peices of junk that's all they had with them, this is worse than when they had the F40s and the GEs!

Isn't the bad order rate on the Midwest Chargers somewhere between one-third and one-half now?  I hope Amtrak has stopped P42 retirements for now.  Oh, sorry, in my last post, I said "affect" instead of "effect" and let it get by.

I don't recall seeing anywhere in this thread what the power was.

Amtrak has started making cab cars out of P42s.

Power was un-Charged IDTX 4618, then UP 6864 was dropped to tow the dead mess east to St Louis, where 6864 was set out and P42 59 took over to Chicago,GE shows up the Chargers again, twice.

True about the cab cars.  At least that will help with trains that might now have to have working P42s (or Chargers) on both ends, freeing those secone P42s for other assignments (replacing dead or otherwise malfunctioning Chargers.

We have not had any delays with Amtrak for the past 14 years. Of course we got smarter and quit Amtrak before they could quit themselves and leave up stranded out in a corn field 14 years ago too. I know many would say it isn't always bad but we just decided to make sure of that. You know, that old deal about - NEVER AGAIN.
