Passenger Trains > Cascade Engineer Nearly Impaled by TreeDate: 11/24/24 06:09 Cascade Engineer Nearly Impaled by Tree Author: amtrakbill This was mentioned a couple days ago here. But this news article which should not be blocked, has frightening pictures of the tree inside the cab next to where the operator was sitting. Thankfully the engineer was not hurt.

Date: 11/24/24 07:12 Re: Cascade Engineer Nearly Impaled by Tree Author: Valleyman Guess Amtrak management has another reason to curtail operations when storms are predicted. Wind and rain equals a lot of fallen trees.
Valleyman Date: 11/24/24 10:12 Re: Cascade Engineer Nearly Impaled by Tree Author: Peter_Hawtrey How would've he made out in one of those new Amtrak engines?

PLEASE, for the benefit of everyone, explain and include a diagram what locomotive or cab car will prevent an object from coming through a window. No really, please explain. Oh wait, you want no windows. But then you will probably complain the engineer can not see. Date: 11/24/24 11:18 Re: Cascade Engineer Nearly Impaled by Tree Author: ts1457 I think the railroads have been lax in clearing trees that represent a hazard to the ROW.

Because of the angle of the truck on the crossing, the lumber traveled endways through the front windows of the lead GP38, filling the cab (with the crew ducked well below that level). I can't understand how that elicited such a response on this forum. Rant and conjecture aren't helpful when someone asks a question. Your question is similar to say someone asking if a Ford car would have been safer than a Chevy car when someone threw a rock off a bridge overpass of a freeway and the rock went through the window of the Chevy car. The rock is still going to go through the window. Date: 11/26/24 08:56 Re: Cascade Engineer Nearly Impaled by Tree Author: westcoastrails Peter_Hawtrey Wrote:

He has a long history of condescending and arrogant, aggressive, rude responses to people who ask simple questions or give their own personal opinions on a subject. And that's just it. They're personal opinions that no one, including him, is required to agree with. Don't bother providing proof to him on something he asks for proof on. I have found that when he is publicly proven wrong on here and facts and proof are provided to contradict what he says, he shuts down and doesn't respond. Just an internet bully. Best not to engage.
