Author: JPB MBTA Needham line commuters to Boston from Needham Heights and Needham Center start their 45 minute inbound journey by heading away from Boston for a mile and a half before turning east at Needham Jct and eventually joining the NE Corridor at Forest Hills. Needham Heights is the end of the 13 mile service to South Station Boston (10 miles as the crow flies) and the outbound trains reverse here after a short dwell to become inbound trains.
