The BLE-T members have been working without a contract since 2019, and are described as being the lowest paid in the country. According to the NJ.com article,either side would have been able to pursue a strike or lockout had the new board not been convened. NJT wants the engineers to accept the "pattern" accepted by other unions.
The article says the points in dispute include pay, and recognition of the specialized knowledge NJT engineers are required to possess for the many routes they cover.
