Caltrain Holiday Train Sneak Preview

Caltrain's Holiday Train is presently parked on depot track 12 in San Francisco in preparation
for its run down the Peninsula next weekend(Dec. 7-8).  The schedule of the stops to be made:

Bring new, unwrapped gifts!

The consist of this year's train:
• F40PH-2C's 922 and 921
• Gallery cars 3856 and 3859
• Flat cars 711 and 712
• Bay window caboose 598

It seems unlikely the two galleries will be retained and not be shipped with the rest of the
fleet to Peru.  Caltrain has a large surplus of Bombardiers and a couple could easily take 
over next year.

An updste on the dead storage inventory in San Francisco:
• 17 of the 20 F40PH's(all but 915, 917 and 918)
• AEM-7's 929 and 938
• 5 Gallery cars
• Bay window caboose 599

That AEM7 looks really, really good in that CALTRAIN paint scheme!  I wonder if those engines will ever see use??

Why do the locomotives, which we now know are headed for Peru, are missing numberboards and headlights??

Headlights, I don't know. But what would they need Caltrain numbers for in Peru? I'd guess they were collected by crew members.

Parts were probably "borrowed" to keep other units running. And since they're going away they'll probably never be replaced.
