Get a HEP power car and we'd have a more reliable operation.

What's there history? How many of these units is Amtrak getting and what is there intended role? Yard duty? I agree - get a HEP car behind them and good to go!

Progress Rail nearing the end of a contract for 30 remanufacted GP38-3's(725-754).
2245 is temporary PRLX number and unit should eventually appear as the AMTK 752, 753 or 754.

Will this allow the retirement of older switchers or did Amtrak have that many GP38's already?

Amtrak didn't have a fleet of GP38-3's like this. So a bit confused as to what, where, why, when. I am sure there's a good reason, but haven't seen answers. Hopefully someone knows! TIA! And if "Progress Rail" can do THIS type of work, what other kinda work can they do, cause Amtrak's got a HUGE backlog of a LOT of different equipment!!!!

It doesn't say specifically, but some from 1976 were originally LIRR locos until 2000. They didn't have HEP nor dynamic brake blisters originally. Such blisters wouldn't have fit under the Jamaica station canopies, and they had to bevel the edges of the long hood's battery box to make it.

On  a Amtrak Pittsfield train last summer, they used one as a cab car.

He's probably talking about that box just above
the hoodline next to the dyn brake blisters.
Actually air filters or something?
