A colorful ending to 2024 at Caltrain in San Jose
Author: stevef

Caltrain recently put a colorful wrap to the cars behind diesel powered train used this evening on South County Connector Train # 816 to Gilroy. It was powered by shiny MP36PH-3C. But more interesting were coach  219, coach 234, and cab car 120 with temporary wraps. Car #219 is adorned by grapes, perhaps representing the vineyards that are now so prevalent around Morgan Hill and Gilroy. Car # 234 seems to have the sun and palm trees perhaps representing the good weather that there is in Santa Clara County. Cab car 120 has baseballs, basketballs, footballs, soccer balls, and hockey sticks covering the 5 sports that Caltrain brings large numbers of fans to. First, baseball fans ride to San Francisco King Street Station next to AT&T Park to watch the San Francisco Giants. Second, Warriors Fans go to 22nd Street station and walk 8 blocks to Chase Center to watch the Golden State Warriors NBA Basketball team (or to San Francisco King Street and a transfer to the MUNI T Third light rail line to deliver you to the door). Third, 49er's football fans take Caltrain to Mountain View Station and transfer to the VTA's Orange line light rail train right to the door of Levis stadium in Santa Clara. Fourth, Soccer fans get off at Santa Clara Station, walk under the tracks for a 6 block walk to Paypal Park Stadium to watch San Jose Sharks Major League Soccer team. Fifth, Hockey fans take Caltrain to San Jose Diridon Station and walk across the street to SAP Center Arena to watch the San Jose Sharks play.

Now passengers can only take the new electric trains and not the diesel hauled ones to these 5 sports teams events.  But even if you do not like theses colorful trains, they give some fun, interesting variety in these days of sameness of rail equipment. What do youy all think?

I like 'em. Cute, fun, and they don't obscure the windows. Happy New Year, and thanks for posting these.

Slight correction: the name of the soccer team in San Jose is the Earthquakes (or simply the "Quakes").
