Passenger Trains > Amtrak 41 4 hours late at Elkhart 1/8/25

Led by ALC-42 336 and P42 82, Amtrak 41 was delayed departing from Chicago apparently with unspecified equipment issues (?). Here it is arriving Elkhart at 0129 Wednesday 1/8/25 operating about 4 hours late (and an hour after Amtrak 48's passage). As of its stop at Elyria, OH at 0539, 41 was running 4 hours and 24 minutes late. The good news is according to Amtrak's Track Your Train, 41 is expected to be OT by its arrival at Jacksonville Thursday at 0625, making up an hour or so between Elkhart and Washington DC, 2 more hours between DC and Savannah, and an hour between Savannah and Jacksonville.

I wouldn't count on any time being made up. It's coming into Pittsbugh at 4 hours late, and rarely have I seen the train make up time between Pittsburgh and Washington DC onboard - both from observing and being onboard MANY MANY MANY times. 

Looks like a Siemens Charger on the point. Someone should be keeping track of the reliability of these locomotives. 

Amtrak stated "late servicing of equipment" and not "mechanical issues". Question is, how late did 40 arrive into Chicago yesterday morning?

Amtrak's TYT is pie-in-the-sky and accurate about 10% of the time in situations like this. Late trains get later, and 41 is delay-prone all the way south. 

While were on the subject, does anyone know which of the sleepers position tends to be a VIewliner 2?

You were correct! As of 1645 Wednesday, Amtrak 41 is now running almost 5 hours late approaching DC, v. this morning's prediction of being down only 3 hours arriving DC!

It's always been the rearmost Viewliner, 4002 or 4112 I would presume are the "sleeper line numbers."

Keeping tabs on Amtrak 41's progress from its ~4 hour late departure from Chicago on 1/8/25, per Track Your Train status as of 0550 1/9/25, 41 is now operating about 6 hours and 20 minutes late as it approaches Camden, SC. Rather than being OT into Jacksonville at 0625 as forecastedon  1/8/25, it might arrive Jax 4 hrs and 42 min late around 1107. 

It's worse than that. 41 departed Deland 12 hrs 12 mins late. I rest my case. Late trains get later.

Per Track Your Train, as of 0518 Friday 1/10/24, this Amtrak 41 is due to arrive Delray Beach at 0524, 12 hrs and 31 min late and should arrive at Hollywood, FL by 0606, 12:20 late. Estimated arrival at the final destination Miami is not shown.

I'm guessing this means that by the time the consist is cleaned and turned, Amtrak 40 scheduled departure from Miami of 1105 will be delayed a few hours?

Yes, 40 of the 10th originated Miami 2 hrs 32 mins late.
