January 11 and 12: NO rail service between SD/LA/SLO
Author: cph

On Saturday and Sunday, January 11 and 12, 2025, the trackage between San Diego, Los Angeles, and San Luis Obispo will be shut down due to multiple trackwork projects. This means that the following trains will not operate:
  • Pacific Surfliner
  • Coast Starlight
  • Metrolink Ventura County Line
  • Metrolink Orange County Line
  • Metrolink Inland Empire-Orange County Line
  • Coaster (Oceanside-San Diego)
It is unclear if the Metrolink Antelope Valley Line, which uses the Coast Line between LAUS and downtown Burbank, will be affected. However, projects include tunnel and bridgework in Ventura County, and various projects in Orange and San Diego Counties related to track stabilization. So AV trains *may* still run this weekend.

No alternate bus service will be provided along the corridor by either Amtrak or Metrolink.  Longer trips in the corridor may be available via Greyhound/Flixbus. Shorter trips within or between counties may be served by using local transit agencies (LA Metro, OCTA, etc.)

Coast Starlight can still operate north of San Luis Obispo for it's thousand plus mile trek up the Pacific Coast to Seattle, WA. Crew change point at San Luis Obispo and it can be re-supplied there. Anyone know if that's being done, or if the Coast Starlight is just operating north of the Bay Area?

EDIT - appears they will be turning the Coast Starlight in the Bay Area. Reasonable I suppose.

I guess some of the LA bound passengers will transfer to the San Joaquin service.

Metrolink has had an advisory about this on their app for over a month. Per the app the San Bernardino, the 91/Perris Valley and Antelope Valley Lines will be operating.

Do a little fact checking before posting to answer some of the questions you posed. Metrolink has had an alert for a month now saying AV Line, SBD Line, and Perris/91 Line would be operating as scheduled on their Sat/Sun schedule and Amtrak made an alert that Coast Starlight would be turning at Oakland and would be operating Oakland-Seattle.
