Borealis Superliners

Is the recent use of Superliner coaches on the Borealis just one-off exceptions?  Has there been any discussions about permanent Superliner equipment on the Borealis?

I think this is temporary, because there has been so much criticism of Superliner use on short-distance trains, even in the unfortunately-necessary case of the Illini and Saluki thanks to the shunting problem and CN's demand for the heaviest cars available.  It sounds like Amtrak is just desperate to keep itself running as things fall apart.  I notice they're also using long-distance Chargers on the Borealis occasionally.  They're not supposed to be doing that either.

Who decides what locomotives are assigned to which trains if they are not under contract to operate with state owned equipment?

That I don't know.  I know I've never seen a long-distance Charger on a Cascades train out here in the Northwest.  With Chicago apparently in such dire straits right now, I wouldn't be surprised if some local official is just throwing up his or her hands and saying "oh, whatever."

Move the Amtrak Horizons to the Texas/Oklahoma Heartland Flyer and have the Heartland's Superliners up to Chicago and the Midwest would ever have - or at least during winter. On average, Oklahoma City and Ft. Worth have higher "Low Temps" than what Chicago would ever see. Ft. Worth even better in temps.

The entire Borealis set was sent to Beech Grove due to freeze damage. Four horizon coaches and an amfleet dinette. Superliners were the best they could come up with to get the Borealis back on the road in a timeley fashion. I am sure that once the cars have been fixed and sent back to Chicago on 51, they will be placed into service and the Superliners will go away.

How did the set get freeze damage? Was it not plugged in or something overnight?

CNOC in Wilmington, DE makes all those decisions.
