Passenger Trains > FL: BrightLine has third pedestrian hit in two weeksDate: 01/27/25 14:05 FL: BrightLine has third pedestrian hit in two weeks Author: Lackawanna484 BrightLine has encountered a string of strikes against trespassers / pedestrians in the roadway in Indian River County / Vero Beach FL. Three people in two weeks. One was sitting in the right of way and lost an arm. Another was walking along the right of way. A third was standing in a public crossing. All within a mile or so
In the past, BrightLine has had these multiple strikes. And resolved them by purchasing additional police vigilance in the area to keep people from trespassing in the mostly fenced, fully warning signed track area. We'll need a volunteer to come up with the required artwork depicting someone with their head up their a*s. /Ted Date: 01/28/25 04:29 Re: FL: BrightLine has third pedestrian hit in two weeks Author: dcfbalcoS1 One would have to assume these people were drunk, on drugs, suicidal or were extremely moronic or a combination of any of those. I suppose which ever it was, they succeeded in creating a lot of trouble and grief for everyone who is involved or has to clean it up.

People blowing thru red lights, going around rail gates, etc. Pedestrian and driver stuff. It must be tough for a BrightLine, Tri-Rail, etc engineer. Anybody near the tracks could do something stupid in a minute. Northwestern University just recently came out with a study that showed IQ test results have been dropping for a decade or so. I blame computers. They’re doing to brains what machines did to our bodies. Made them fat and flabby. When BrightLine first launched in Broward county, nobody paid attention to the warning flashers, gates, etc, etc. We discussed it on TO.
BrightLine hired deputies to sit on problem crossings, and bagged a lot of violators. Some of whom had warrants out, were carrying weapons or drugs as felons, and various other mischief. After a while, people got the message, and the collisions decreased. Still see the occasional suicide, giving the engineer the finger until they disappear from camera view. But the wholesale carnage has ended down south. |
