Some have been sitting there for several years. Wonder if they will see service soon?

So  let's  guess  May or  June.   Two  extra  car s  per  train  will be  a  big  deal.
Remember  the  idea  of  a  vastly improved  Northeast  Corridor    was  to  help
rduce  congestion at  airports  and  on the  highway. Congestion is  a  word  on the 'news' a  lot  since  Wed/ Sadly,

I doubt it will be Spring 2025. Lucky if it will be Fall 2025.

I'll see it to believe it, they've been saying this and that for the past few years!

If I remember correctly --  this Acela-2 order cost over $1 Billion dollars -
with the first two sets delivered for testing in 2020

During the ensuing 5 years -- AMManagement has said very little about them--
just stored them.

Elon Musk should have a field-day with this! - and he probably has a valid point.

If he claims Amtrak is "Wasteful Government Spending",  because Gardner sat on a Billion
dollars investment for 5 years, without generating a Dime of income --- who can argue the point?

What is left to correct?

I guess the car bodies still leak.

Could they be put in service at a lower than design speed?

First cars ever to need a 40 year rebuild before entering service.

There was some discussion about whether the onboard computer systems interfaced properly with tne ACSES control system used on the NEC

Thanks.

This order might turn into a complete loss.

So Amtrak isn't still calling them Acela 21s  ?  They'll debut in 2021 and completely replace the original Acelas in 2022 we were told......

I said that two years ago after looking at the list of complications and challenges that had to be modified. The more they sit, the more they also age. This is a real travesty of a story. DOGE gets a hold of just this alone, Amtrak is up a creek. Yet this could be a "Conrail success story" if someone would take an interest........

In business contracts, issues like this often go to arbitration.

Can this equipment be safely operated at 90 mph? Or 80 mph? Is the software failure due to the maker, or poor specs? Did Amtrak sign off on incomplete or fraudulent samples?

No rational enterprise, which desperately needs seats, is going to let this equipment sit for five years. Leaking.
