Amtrak #6 w/BNSF Power After Boulder Incident
Author: OmahaTom

This is a ten hour late Zephyr #6 as it enters the western suburbs of Omaha. The BNSF unit is on the point because the original front unit was disabled the previous day after striking a large rock that found its way on to the tracks in Colorado, west of Granby. Shot March 7, 2025 at 15:07. Location is 90th Street in Ralston, NE.

Thanks for the post and video, Tom. I well remember "boulder strikes" during my working days at Amtk.

I recall a Coast Starlight #14, that hit a huge Rock at Dorris, CA,  at the State Line w Oregon. Right at
the Tunnel, for those who know this area. We eventually got going, fortunately and did make it to Seattle,
only a few hours late. An SPRR MOW gang was able to use heavy duty cutting torches and other gear,
that allowed us to proceed on our way. Our F40s pilot assembly was bent inward, and was up against the
Rail. The Gang blazed off some heavy metal, just enough to clear the Rail, and got us on our Way. Late '80s.
