The union has described its members as the lowest paid engineers in the region. BTW, both the new NJT CEO and the general chairman made the announcement together.NJ Transit had offered an average 4% wage increase over the eight and a half years of the proposed contract. The old pact covered up to 2019, meaning a new contract covers those past years through 2027.The report from Presidential Emergency Board 252 in January described the two sides as being closer except for one salary issue, a disagreement over a requested 14% increase on July 1, 2027.The union contended that is needed to bring NJ Transit engineers to the same hourly rate as peers from other commuter railroads including the Long Island Rail Road, Metro North and Amtrak. |
