BNSF unit leading #11 Coast Starlight
Author: SPB

A pretty clean BNSF freight unit is leading the southbound Starlight today.  The train was delayed out of Seattle, maybe due to swapping the BNSF unit for one of Amtrak's?  It will be interesting to see if the BNSF unit goes all the way to LA.

The Calss I's ought to paint a few of their locos in the Amtrak Phase 7 scheme since they so often find themselves in the lead.

The other approach would be for Amtrak to have HEP power cars available for the possibility of all their locomotives failing.

Absolutely the right path.  Next step, copy Metra's purchse/rehab of older emd units.  We need to get comparative MDBF ##s for Metra's units nd the Siemens products.

Perhaps AMTRAK needs to start purchasing used/rebuilt GEs from Class One RR and put them on every long-distance train in the lead.  Use the AMTRAK units for head-ernd power
