Passenger Trains > Photos of SEPTA's ACS-64 Sprinters in a few locationsDate: 03/19/25 09:48 Photos of SEPTA's ACS-64 Sprinters in a few locations Author: Mgoldman Captured SEPTA's ACS-64 "American Cities Sprinters" at various locations over the years -
they are a welcome sighting along the NEC, the Keystone Line and along parts of SEPTA's system that might otherwise be limited to some rather less appealing modern day Silverliners married pairs. I suppose they started out as "Amtrak Cities Sprinters" but as I recall, thanks to their use on SEPTA, can be considers "American Cities Sprinters". The top speed is 125 mph in service, 135 max. The 64 in ACS-64 is 6,400 kW (8,600 hp) - max, 5,000 kW (6,700 hp) continuous. Rather impressive, though not sure how their tractive effort compares to modern day freight locomotives? Wonder if the Pennsy, Virginian and Great Northern would've bought some? SEPTA owns 14 total. Amtrak owns 70. First location: Bridesburg in Philadelphia, PA - NEC Second:Berwyn, PA on the Keystone Line Third: Bristol, PA on the NEC /Mitch ![]() ![]() ![]() Date: 03/19/25 09:49 Re: Photos of SEPTA's ACS-64 Sprinters in a few locations Author: texchief1 Excellent set!

On the NEC some of the stations are only a half mile apart! SEPTA likes to use them on express trains. I know they have 14, how many daily trains use them? Keeping some in maintenance and some backup.

I know the big plan was to use the Sprinters with the double deck coaches that I think were recently cancelled due to issues with quality from the China. They certainly make for better subjects in the viewfinder vs the subway looking Silverliner V's (and even the IV's). The older Silverliners and Pioneer cars were actually pretty good looking, however. /Mitch Date: 03/19/25 21:37 Re: Photos of SEPTA's ACS-64 Sprinters in a few locations Author: BrynMawr Outlier here. i prefer the EMUs. more nimble.
My tuppence. That said nice picture work. Date: 03/20/25 15:09 Re: Photos of SEPTA's ACS-64 Sprinters in a few locations Author: PasadenaSub Great group of photos. I feel the SEPTA scheme looks better on the ACS-64 than the Amtrak paint does on theirs.
