Passenger Trains > Issues at Newark AirportDate: 05/05/25 12:26 Issues at Newark Airport Author: amtrakbill Checking on flights cancelled today into and out of Newark United Airlines cancelled a total of 35 flights. 5 were to and from Boston and 4 were to and from Washington Reagan airport.
I assume Amtrak is getting extra ridership from the issues there and this is expected to continue into mid-summer It would be nice if Amtrak can get their new Acelas up and running to take advantage of this problem Nice to see United is cancelling flights where alternative rail travel is available Posted from iPhone Date: 05/05/25 12:35 Re: Issues at Newark Airport Author: dan runway repair closing one
Date: 05/05/25 12:38 Re: Issues at Newark Airport Author: pdt Ugh. Flights along the NEC cancel all the time.
Unfortunately, amtk operates like a typical govt agency, with little incentive or desire to get in there and grind. Its been that way for most of the last 53 years, so IDK why anyone would get all excited about missed opportunities now. Amtk totally missed the travel ramp up after covid, which was huge. At this point, the post office i think is going after business more than amtrak does. Date: 05/05/25 12:55 Re: Issues at Newark Airport Author: joemvcnj And then NJT goes on strike May 16th.
Date: 05/05/25 13:23 Re: Issues at Newark Airport Author: cabsignaldrop Several canceled and very late Acela and Regional trains also on the NEC today. The Acela trains are spread so thin that any equipment problems causes delays or cancellations of other trips.
New Acela trains, if they ever enter service, will be held to "B" speeds as issues with the tilt have never been resolved. That means held to the same speeds as Amfleet trains. At least they are getting the leaks fixed...in rainy weather, water would pour into the power cars and from the roof! Perhaps Amtrak wrote that into the specks so they would be similar to the Amfleets? Posted from Android Date: 05/05/25 13:25 Re: Issues at Newark Airport Author: Lackawanna484 joemvcnj Wrote:

Posted from Android Date: 05/05/25 15:09 Re: Issues at Newark Airport Author: pdt The strike will probably settle at 11:59 PM on may 15th.

Date: 05/05/25 17:22 Re: Issues at Newark Airport Author: Tominde Will Amtrak even think of adding a stop at EWR for corridor trains that don't typically stop there?

That could be viewed as strike breaking if these trains didn't make the stop previously. Posted from Android Date: 05/06/25 06:45 Re: Issues at Newark Airport Author: joemvcnj Tominde Wrote:

The NJT 62 bus runs from Newark Penn to EWR, takes 25 minutes, runs every 15 -20 minutes, and costs $1.80. EWR Airtrain is a tourist trap. |
