Author: sethamtrak

2 hours and 40 mins late out of Chicago was the Cardinal. 3 hours and 42 mins late by Dyer. And the train had a 30 hour layover in Chicago. A true head scratcher... Anyway.

174 (new livery) - shuttle motor
514 - last time we will see it? Came from DC.
27 - ?
Superliner sleeper
Superliner coach
Surfliner Coach
Viewliner Baggage - buffer

87 (new livery), two coaches, dinette, Viewliner II, Viewliner bag-dorm (with a massive flat spot on one of the rear two wheels).

The unit with the hospital train equipment off the Red Bird at Indy that takes it on CSX to Beech Grove.

Reverse procedure to Chicago.

I suppose the Horizon car situation means the Cardinal is bakc down to 2 coaches, having the Carolinian go to Amfleet-2.

AMTK 514 as in the GE Dash 8? Why would it be the last time it would be seen? Last photo from 2023 it looks to be in good shape.

The Geeps are coming. Many along the east coast are in service, and two have arrived in Chicago. Reportedly to replace the first two of five Chicago dash-8 switchers.

How did the train lose an hour between CUS and Dyer?

Quality dispatching by CSX.

Ummm... I take it you don't know who owns and dispatches most of the trackage between CUS and Dyer.   (Hint, it isn't CSX)

Also, knowing Amtrak's "awesome" communication skills, it is doubtful Amtrak advised when the train was going to leave.   At some point as a dispatcher, you stop holding a route for a train that hasn't shown up and start running what you have.   THAT is quality dispatching, something you no doubt know nothing about.

I'm sure the Dash 8's will find somewhere on the network to be useful. Who knows maybe on the midwest regional trains? I would love to see them rebuilt and back on the Chief. I know I can wish in one hand and pooh in the other . . .

Quality dispatching would picking up the phone to see where Amtrak is instead of waiting for it to magically show up.

But I imagine that's too much work for a passenger train that runs only 3 times a week.

You quickly learn to not not bother even asking the glass house.  They don't know either, and will just spew out BS.

Since I doubt you know what the glass house even is, sit down and go keep track of refurbished Superliners.   It seems like that is more in your wheelhouse.
