Empire Builder route options west of Spokane?
Author: milwrdfan

Looking at taking the Empire Builder to the west coast at some point in the future.  I've taken this train before, but always have taken the Spokane - Portland leg and have never done the Spokane-Seattle segment.  I've found the segment along the Columbia river to be extremely scenic, but am not familiar with the Seattle route's scenery.  For those that have taken the Seattle leg, what is the scenery like, and is it worth it for scenic beauty compared to the Portland segment along the Columbia?

It's absolutely beautiful and yes, definitely worth taking.

And you will have the full diner into Seattle.

Both are great...the Seattle route runs along the shore of Puget Sound for the last hour plus after leaving Everett.  Spectacular!  Depending on time of year, you'll also get great views of the Cascades.  Here are a couple of pics from our EB trip in February.

The ride through the Cascades is stunning when the weather cooperates. These photos are from last weekend.

Thanks all - sounds like a trip on this segment is well worth it, so I'll make that my route this time.
