"The Night Before Christmas" At Amtrak
Author: amtk189

Something I came up with entirely on my own, it was a lot of fun.

'Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the yard
Not a P42 was clicking, or a horn blowing hard

The reck-dammaged superliners were placed by the shop door with care,
in hopes that ST. Nicolis would soon be there.

The Reck-dammaged P42's were all nessled in there beds,
with visions of cireus rebuilds dancing in there heads
I in my coat and my nice warm cap,
had just settled down for a long winters napp.

When out in the yard there aroze such a clatter,
I sprang from my chair to see what was the matter.
Over to the door I flew like a flash,
Unlocking the door and opening it with a crash.

The moonlight shining on the new-fallen snow,
Gave luster and beauty to the mainline below.
When, what to my wondering eyes should appear,
but a P42DC pulling 8 tiny raindeer.

With a little old engineer, so lively and quick,
I new in an instant it must be ST. Nick
More rapid then eagles his corsers they came,
and he whiseled, and shouted, and called them by name

"On Dasher! And Dancer! And Prancer! And Vixen!
On Comit! On Cupid! On Donder! On Blitzen!
To the top of the tower! to the top of the wall!
Now dash away! dash away! dash away all!"

As dry leaves that after the fast train fly,
When they meet with an obstacle, mount to the sky,
So up to the roof-top the P42 it flew,
pulling the 8 tiny raindeer, and St. Nicholas too.
And then, in a twinkling, I heard on the roof
The prancing and pawing of each little hoof.
As I drew in my hand, and was turning around,
Down the stairs St. Nicholas came with a bound.

He was dressed all in fur, from his head to his foot,
And his clothes were all tarnished with ashes and soot.
A bundle of new bilevels he had flung on his back,
And he looked like a peddler just opening his pack.

His eyes how they twinkled! his dimples how merry!
His cheeks were like roses, his nose like a cherry!
His droll little mouth was drawn up like a bow,
And the beard of his chin was as white as the snow

He had a broad face and a little round belly,
That shook, when he laughed like a bowlful of jelly.

He was chubby and plump, a right jolly old elf,
And I laughed when I saw him, in spite of myself
A wink of his eye and a twist of his head,
Soon gave me to know I had nothing to dread

He spoke not a word, but went straight to his work,
And replaced all the Reck-Dammaged equipment then turned with a jerk,
And laying his finger aside of his nose,
And giving a nod, up the staircase he rose

He sprang to his engine, and its horn gave 2 loud blasts,
And away they all flew leeving me extremely aghast.

But I heard him exclaim, as the locomotive roared out of sight,
"MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL, AND TO ALL A GOOD NIGHT!"

Awesome! And written or composed quite well. Sounds and looks like St Nick made an extended stop at Amtraks Beech Grove shop to replace the wrecked P42s and Superliners.
Again, awesome and many thanks for sharing.

Phil
