Labor Day/surfliners
Author: pismobum

with the excess horizons moving east to assist with new orleans, and mundo's comment about 'look for standees on the surfliners' over labor day weekend, is it safe to assume that NOBODY can (or will) arrange for metrolink or coaster equipment that is sitting idle to be utilized?

Well, it’s not really a matter of Amtrak being broke. You have to remember when you talk about being broke, the budget, etc. you’re supposed to be talking about the upcoming fiscal period. Not the current one you’re in.

Secondly, it always amusing that people believe that Amtrak has some powerful entitlement to equipment that belongs to other carriers. Amtrak is Amtrak, Coaster is Coaster, and Metrolink is Metrolink. Simple.

Finally, the Horizons wouldn’t be a factor even if they didn’t go anywhere… there’s only one Horizon set running through the end of Del Mar, and it has all the cars it needs.

Personally, I’d like to see the Pacific Surfliner’s entirely reserved. Do away with the unreserved crap. That would take care of a lot of bitching.

Is this the same Amtrak that ALWAYS has money to use SEPTA, NJT, and MARC equipment on holidays?
