Quite the eclectic roster of power down under. Very impressive. Please send more. Also, I hope OZ survives the flooding and cyclone. You're in my thoughts and prayers.

Great set of shots. I particularly like the Jindalee pic.The structure on the left of the pic is a stream gauging station.I was in a team of 3 who built that back in the mid 70's.It is built adjacent to the old ROW in that pasture. That old grade must have been quite the challenge for early steam power on this line.
The shots of the Wagga viaduct are about a mile from my house.

So where does that passenger train run? It's clearly not the IP. I wasn't aware there were any passenger trains left in NSW other than the XPTs to Melbourne and Canberra. Glad to see there is still another what looks to be proper passenger train running.

All those pix are great. Thanks for posting them. It's gratifying to see so many familiar faces (though some in different paint schemes) from those I observed during my three years (2001-2004) at Freight Australia in Melbourne. I enjoyed Oz very much.

Beautiful photos of some very interesting subjects! What do the letters (RL, NR, VL, G, FL, EL, T, GM, S, LDP, CLP) in front of several of the locomotive numbers mean? Also, what are the first cars in the trains pulled by #4204 and #4716 used for?

Letters refer to locomotive class. Ballast wagons.

Great collection of shots. Photo C is my personal favorite. Love the variety of schemes in Australia. Thanks for posting and hope to see more.

It's like Texas weather: wait 15 minutes, and it'll change. Just in the past few months, there's the new Xterra locomotives; new QRNational, Freightliner, RailPower, and Greentrains paint schemes, a 40 class restored in beautiful blue paint, revived Mk.1 48 class coming back to life as boosters for GrainCorp, Red Terror redux on 44 Class owned by IRA, and G class and C class now wearing Southern Shorthaul paint. Can a repaint of El Zorro G class be too far away? It's never-changing. And that's mostly just in New South Wales. Unlike how it seems here in North America.

And this is why trip 29 to OZ is scheduled for April 28th/June 16th! Throw in the Pilbara and you have the makings of another great trip.

Envious! But I'll get mine early next year (I'm not as flexible as your teachers!). And the reliable Mr. Chuck will again be accompanying us.

Retired from education 7 years....can't let work get in the way of a good Ozzie trip! you would have loved the last trip to NZ with Sir Charles. We never got out of the car for days on end account of the cloudy weather. Things change so fast that if you do not hit the train scene there every 6 months you end up missing something. It is so crazy. Don't like a paint scheme....just wait a few months. The best show of U.S. railroading is in Australia--the iron ore roads in the Pilbara.

Cloudy? I'm guessing Graham wasn't along--he shows up and the clouds part and the sun shines and birds sing and trains start running.

Not that trip. Even the power of Kaptain Krunch could not part the clouds. These 2 were as close to a cloudy shot that we got.....we just do not do it. We laughed about all the "great" shots we missed.
