Tobu 8000 series EMU
Author: Railpax71

These are used for the local trains on the Kiryu line between Akagi and Ota. From Wikipedia "A total of 712 vehicles were built between 1963 and 1983, making this the most numerous EMU type operated by any private railway operator in Japan" Built 1963-1983 and refurbished 1986-2008. I only have seen two car trainsets in use.

1. Our train arriving in Shin Kiryu for the trip to Ota
2. Interior of 8000 series
3. 8000 series arriving Ota for the trip back to Shin Kiryu

1067mm 3'6" gauge. 1500 volts DC.

What is amazing to me is the near absolute cleanliness of the trains and stations.

I didn't realize that Tobu Railway's classic 8000 series EMUs have a new face after being refurbished. I was puzzled at first looking at your pics, until I did a little research and found out. I recall seeing the original face during my visit to Japan in 2005, along Tobu's Tojo Line out of Ikebukuro.

The JNR/JR foamers on the list should understand when Tobu's 8000 series are called Shitetsu version of the venerable 103 series.
