The information I found was the following routes served by the Tren Interurbano on INCOFER:

San Jose to Heredia, Alajueal and Cartago.

Also a private operation by America Travel between San Jose and Caldera.

Several years ago, I rode a narrow gauge train from Puerto Limon to Bananito on INCOFER as part of a Carnival Cruise Lines shore excursion. I am not sure if this still operates as well. Nice bridges, scenic views but rough track...

Did a Carnival Cruise and at the time they had two excursions that involved a train ride. I picked out what I thought would have been the longest but that was cancelled just before the cruise. So I picked the other one. It was a short ride and really no place to get a photograph of the train. The door from the bus parked right beside so you could get off the bus and step right onto the train. It was a one way trip and at the end of the trip, I would say four miles, the bus parked right beside the track. Again step off the train right onto the bus. Well I had come this far and I ran to geta quick shot. The tour director went crazy but HELL I did get a shot. INCOFER 57 at Buenos Aires, Costa Rica February 13, 2013.
