Visit to the Jomo Electric Railway shops
Author: Railpax71

I visited the Jomo Electric railway shops in Godo, Gunma, Japan today. They are very railfan friendly and offer a tour between 13:00 and 15:00 each day. Godo is centrally located on the line between Maebashi and Kiryu.

1. Active and stored equipment outside the shops.
2. Historic 101 available for charter for 90000 yen.
3. 713/723 undergoing inspection.

4. Original belt driven distribution system for the machine shop
5. A lathe powered by the overhead system
6. One of several simulators in the shop building for training.

7. A spare pantograph they had attached to a pull cord. I was surprised how easily it lifted.
8. #104 another car available to rent.
9. Special even placards. The 101 will run specials for New Years

10. A former Tobu line boxcar. Jomo has not run freight service since 1968. If I understood the guide correctly, Tobu was an former owner of Jomo.
11. Tokens from an old interlocking system
12. Blueprint of one of the original cars. Built half for carrying silk and the other for passengers. Later converted to only valuable freight.

Great report! Thanks for getting the photos of Deha 101 and 104. If either one happened to run while I visit Japan in the future, railfanning the Jomo Electric Railway will immediately become a priority. They didn't run during my visits earlier this year. I guess the alternative is to get a group together to charter a run...
