North Chile

Following a rain event a fortnight ago, photos of devastated rail lines are starting to trickle out

The 3'6" SQM line out of Tocopilla does not seem to have been seriously affected

FCAB had 280km of line either lost or damaged, but back in operation after 10 days http://fcabinforma.cl/2015/04/los-danos-que-nos-causo-el-temporal-y-la-situacion-actual/
They stockpile track and ties as insurance for such events

Chaneral-Potrerillos system (managed by Ferronor for CODELCO) is probably beyond economic repair, El Salvador mine remaining life less than 15 years, this is COCALCO's highest cost operation. Prognosis for the line is not good. Starting at Diego de Almagro 60km of rail running west in the floor of the Rio Salado has completely disappeared, believed that an empty train of acid tank-cars was trapped in this sector

In Youtube paste Impresionante Alud arrasa con Chañaral and the resulting clip shows at least 4 tank-cars washed out to sea
