Went to South Africa for a couple weeks for vacation with the wife. Had a glorious time riding the Atlantic Rail operation to the Spier Winery and also got time to do some other minor railfanning as time allowed.

Picture 3: Two freshly repainted 6E1's on their second journey in their new paint scheme hauling the Premier Classe to Johannesburg. Photo near Breeriver Western Cape.

Atlantic Rail is about the only "regular" steam running in S.A. They also go to Simonstown. I hope you got a chance to meet Ian Pretoris, who is the Atlantic Rail owner. The loco is named after his late wife Jenny. Both were very involved with Transnet's Union Limited where Ian was the manage. They are hoping to restore overnight sleeping car service in areas around the cape at some future point using restored Union Limited equipment.
