Do the tilted tank cars used pressurized air to fluidize the material for unloading?

1 - A rare view of a trio of U20C leading a Holcim cement train at Vespasiano. This is a narrow gauge train. The Liz cement company in the background only has broad gauge cars that are served by MRS railway. Nowadays the narrow gauge cement train are pulled by BB40-3 (SD40-3 on narrow gauge BB trucks) -  September 18, 2010;

2 - TPS tank cars insed the Liz faciliy - October 3rd, 2010;

3 - MRS SD38M 5132 working as DPU in a mixed train of cement and empty hoppers at Km 623 - February 6th, 2006.

All three photos taken in Vespasiano in the Vespasiano in the show dates.

Wow--the tilted tank cement cars are neat looking. Never see anything like that in the US.  A unit train of those would look pretty cool.  Like the road units you showed also.
Thanks for showing all these.

Some cement factories do not have the "banana"  style tank cars and use box cars for cement in bags.

1 - a view of Lafarge cement plant with MRS (borad gauge) FRS class box cars and FCA (narrow gauge) FRD class box cars for cement in bags;

2 - A fca FRD class box car for cement in bags.

1 - a roadrailer switching Liz cement cars ;

2 - HFD class hoppers for lime. Since my area is full of cement and lime factories, I decidedto add pics of hopper for lime too.

Hello Pedro,

I love the work you did with the photos.

The narrow gauge fluidized cement hoppers give us a
new definition to the word whale belly tanks for crude oil and other
liquids that we use here in the United States.

If the whale belly tanks used for crude oil were braced like this they
would be a very, very strong unibody tank car.

Hi Leon, yes these cars are very strong and I´ve never seen one damaged seriously in accidents. In general, they are put back to rails with minor repairs to be done.

Ciminas TPS tank cars and the old RSC3 that worked as yard switcher in the cement plant. The loco was sold to a construction company and later to the company that operates the metropolitam trains in Rio de Janeiro, where it works as MoW. Ciminas was taken over by Holcim and all the cars were painted in Holcim livery.

Great photos and very nice to see someone post something about freightcars.  Those banana hoppers are wild looking things.  The one with the hopper on the flat car reminds me of the Cement Hoppers in New South Wales here in Australia.
