Iron Ore Mines
Author: pedrop

Hi, a discussion for ore mines. I start with Socoimex iron ore mine in Barão de Cocais, MG. It is served by Vale (EFVM) narrow gauge system. The the pics were taken from the passenger train that cross the huge pit. Note a train in the trim of the pit in the first picture.

Pics taken in 2012. The new passenger train do not have the vestibule, so this kind of picture is not possible anymore.

Glad you were able to get the shots while it was still possible. The size of those mines is incredible.

Casa de Pedra loading facility, on MRS Paraopeba line (broad gauge). Pics were taken on 8/12/2009 during the vist of the american railfan Whilliam (Bill), that we see here taken pics of an empty ore train passing by the loading facility bound to another mine along the tracks. Paraopeba line has many loading facilities.

Excellent video of a most impressive mining operation. Thanks for posting it. I was not aware of this operation, nor the way in which the railway passes over the mine pit on that bridge. Absolutely spectacular!

Hi MC, thanks for your comment here. Yes, a trip on Vale passenger trains is always fantastic because we see a lot of beautiful landscape and many, many heavy haul trains
