International Railroad Discussion > Intermodal freight passing through Minami-Chitose, HokkaidoDate: 01/02/16 01:13 Intermodal freight passing through Minami-Chitose, Hokkaido Author: Stephenloco A southbound (towards Hakodate) lightly loaded intermodal freight led by a DF200 “Red Bear” diesel, creates its own blizzard as it passes through Minami-Chitose station.
Minami-Chitose is located on the Chitose line, part of the main route between Sapporo & Hakodate, and is the junction for the branch to New Chitose Airport (adjacent) and the Sekisho line to Shintoku (route to Obihiro & Kushiro) You must be a registered subscriber to watch videos. Is this normal? I take it that the rail leveling and clearances are very precise.. Date: 01/04/16 10:19 Re: Intermodal freight passing through Minami-Chitose, Hokkaido Author: cchan006 Hokkaido winter isn't for sissies! Thanks for braving the chilly "train wind" to get the video.
Freight trains running track speed through train stations are as normal as limited express trains doing the same, to answer BobP's question. Passengers on the platform get ample warnings, usually 2-3 voice announcements (plus a "passing train" display on the digital board, if available). Happens multiple times every day.
