Regarding the first three photos, what do you mean by "narrow gauge"?  I thought that the Taiwan rail system by by-and-large was 3-ft 6-in narrorw gauge......was this particular line an even narrower gauge?

I believe that the main railway line down the west coast from Taipei was 3'6", whereas the Hualien-Taitung line on the east coast as 2'6".  Not positive of those dimensions, but the east coast line was definitely narrower than the main line.
