Bridge collapse in Brazil
Author: pedrop

On Friday 11, a can train derailed when a bridge collapsed under the weight of a couple of GM BB40-3's at the fca corridor near Uberaba, MG Brazil. The engineer survived and had a broken arm. It was a miracle when we see how the cab of lead unit was smashed under a tank car.

This pic shows how the second unit was after the bridge collapse. It won't be easy to put it back to the rails.

A correction: I just received the news that the accidente happened near Roncador, GO and there wasn´t a bridge collapse. It wasa culvert under a fill that was destroyed by the heavy rains that are falling in that location these days. It was an empty can train and the orange locomotive we see in the fourth pic is VLI 8111.

Here in the tropics the weeds grows up fast in the rain season. Sometimes e can't see the ties, only the two stell parallels.

Hi, I think once an year, or less. Sometimes the weeds grows up like a jungle around the rails. Take a look in the pics below to see how is the yard here in town, a mainline for limestone, cement and coal. fca usually waits the "Sun" to do the job during the dry season that starts in April.
