International Railroad Discussion > On train K615 in ChinaDate: 06/05/16 08:00 On train K615 in China Author: symph1 We went by train from Beijing to Datong, China yesterday. This is a 6 1/2hour trip on a regular train, not HSR. We left from Beijing Railway Station (#1) on a smoggy day. #2 is our train on the platform, as another train (#3) is on another track.

Seats are like European trains: every other row reversed, so alternate rows face each other. There's a small table between rows. Periodically vendors came through with prepackaged meals, packs of fruits and veggies, and drinks. We ate the Chinese fast-food we'd bought in the station. There's no first class or business class. This train is overnight, so it also offers bunk beds, but we had no need for that.
Dang. TO is again flipping vertical shots. If anyone knows how to fix that, your help would be deeply appreciated. Date: 06/05/16 08:14 Re: On trail K615 in China Author: symph1 People do what they do on trains everywhere. Talk, sleep, eat, read, text...
The train was air conditioned, but not well. Few tourists on these trains, but it's quite acceptable. $9 vs $150 to fly. We were in the first coach, so there's a shot into the baggage car (freight car is better, as there's no checked luggage). A couple college students who speak English stopped by to chat, mostly with my daughter. A motherly women trled to show my daughter how to write come Chinese characters. We talked, slept, ate, and read... and finally arrived on time in Datong. Thanks for looking. To stand on a seat to get to the luggage rack, people were careful to flip back the seat cover first. They came by to collect trash a few times. The bathroom, not so great.
