Vale wood train C776 (Brazil)
Author: pedrop

Hi, today I found the daily wood train 76 passing by my town. Train 76 is loaded with eucalyptus for papels mill. Since today is saturday the train received prefix 7, so it became C776 in the CCO.
Locomotive 1006 is a dash 9 upgraded from a dash 8.

Neat shots of a funky looking engine.

Do engines in Brazil have Air Conditioning? From what I see in photos, there isn't a unit on top of the cab where it would be in the US. On the older engines I see the doors open, I assume because there isn't A/C. But on the new GE's the door isn't open on the photos I see. If no A/C... wow, with those slow climbs and tunnels it must get hot.

Hi, yes all new GE or EMD comes from factory with air conditioning. Many old units also have the device, but it depends on the company they belongs to or the location they operates. In the south is cold, so not necessary to use air conditioning in all units. In the north and northeast it is hot and the air conditioning is necessary.

I presume this was a SG train. How often does a NG train run?

Brasil is either broad gauge - 5'3" as Ireland, Victoria and South Australia - or metre. This is a metre gauge train, the locomotives are fitted with four axle span bolster trucks as the metre gauge limits the size of the traction motors.

Thanks Nick. SG means standard gauge, NG, narrow gauge
