MRS at FCY (Brazil)
Author: pedrop

Some pics taken at Carandai, MG that is designated as FCY at MRS code of locations. It is in the former Central of Brasil (EFCB) Centro line. Nowadays it is used only by empty trains running to west. These tracks meet in Congonhas, MG with Ferrovia do Aço (Steel Rwy) that is used by the loaded trains bound to East cost.

Pics below show an empty ore running through downtown Carandai

1) Old C30-7´s leading a coal train at FCY...like steamers;

2) An empty ore is approaching and a MRS employee prepares to close the crossing level;

3) MRS 7269 is one of the many AC44i using the protection above the windshield to prevent broken glass in the loading facilities. It also works as good sunshild to the crew.

Excellent photos. Wouldn't mind watching the trains go by from one of those upstairs windows.

I'm curious about what looks like little tags on many of the ties between the rails. Any idea about those?

Also of note is the absence of trash or litter on the ROW and street, and the lack of visible graffiti. Is this typical for the region?

Hi YD,

Those white strips on the ties are stamps done by the gang crew that check the ties and rails. If we see a stamp there it means the tie will be replaced soon. MRS is replacing the wood ties for steel.
Yes, these small cities use to be clean and very nice to live. I have seen little graffiti here these days and I imagine the economic crisis took people to save money with paint to do graffiti.

An empty ore leaving the siding. In the foreground, the old Dom Pedro II rwy, later Central of Brasil rwy, stone viaduct.
