Brazil blocked by a truckers strike
Author: pedrop

Brazil is blocked by the worse strike in its history. We are in the sixth day of a truckers strike that closed the main roads in the all 27 states. There is no diesel or gasoline in almost all gas stations in the country. The strike started after the government approved policy of daily increasing in the diesel and gasoline produced by Petrobras, our only petroleum company. Only the trains are running since the railroad companies receives diesel by train, but in some location the strikers start to cut the rails to stop the trains also. In spite of the crazzy situation we are now, most people support the strike since noboby agree with the government policy of fuel prices and the caos of corruption in the government itself. The government put the Army to open the roads, but the soldiers can not force the truck drives to work, so the roads are been openned but the strike will continue with no truck delivering the goods. Some trucks are been scorted by the Army and police to fuel the airports. Many airports are closed due to the lack of fuel.
The number of fuel trains increased but they deliver diesel for use of the railroads and mining companies only.
It is a worrisome situation.

Thanks for posting this. Living in America, I hadn't yet heard about it. Checking the major newspaper, there actually isn't a single mention of it. Hopefully that gives a hint of how good the American media's presentation of major international events usually is.

School shootings, Hawaii volcanoes, Russia and North Korea seem to be the main subjects in the news. Sadly, what's happening in the rest of the world gets ignored.

The situation is worse in Venezuela. Thousand of people are trying to scape to Brazil due the economic crisis and violence of the ditactor Maduro. About 60 thousand Venezuelans escaped to Brazil and other 550 thousand escaped to Colombia.

Back when our media was focused more on content instead of sensationalism, this wasn't much of a problem. I remember news coverage of something similar in Europe about two decades ago, when government's inability to control fuel prices led truckers to go on a similar massive strike. Yup, days when newspapers were thicker and had plenty of stuff to read.

The modern Information Age is definitely overrated. FYI, there are other areas in the world where similar things are happening, or about to happen.

Thanks pedrop for posting what's going on in Brazil.

Its too bad that people cut and run rather than stay and fight. So then they expect the other places to feed and house them which is wrong. Solves nothing just creates more problems in there homeland and in the one they go to.

Venezuela has 13000% inflation (not a typo), rigged elections, no food, no medicine, not even toilet paper and very little else. Dictator Maduro has given all the expropriated property to the army brass so they aren't about to overthrow him. So, stay and fight? With what, rocks against automatic weapons borne by the military and police? And then there's the drug lords. Thankfully some countries are willing to provide refuge for these poor people. Get out of your comfort zone and travel to some of these nations and you might change your tune.

Telling someone "they don't have a clue" isn't classy. Whatever point you were attempting to make was lost right there...
