International Railroad Discussion > Railfaning around Barbacena, MG (Brazil)Date: 07/14/18 15:10 Railfaning around Barbacena, MG (Brazil) Author: pedrop Yesterday (July 13), I did a trip to Barbacena, MG and could spend part of the day railfaning around. The area is served by MRS railroad and the comon trains are empty ore and freight. Here are some pics.
1 and 2 - MRS C44EMi 3935 leading an empty cement train of Holcim cars near the local airport. Date: 07/14/18 15:16 Re: Railfaning around Barbacena, MG (Brazil) Author: pedrop 3 - MRS GDT class ore car parked ina siding at Dr Sá Fortes, in Antônio Carlos, MG;
4 - Detail of the lettering in the viaduct: 6 a. 6- A view in the oposite direction. A sharp curve is sure a not nice place to watch a train coming in high speed. So,let´ss move to another position. I good location to waiting for a train. The red lights is on, so a train is coming from that direction;
8 - The area near the crossing level looks nice. Let´s wait here. Pedro Rezende Vespasiano MG, https://youtube.com/c/minasgeraisrailways1 Date: 07/14/18 15:37 Re: Railfaning around Barbacena, MG (Brazil) Author: zorz pedrop Wrote:

What is the third offset lower head for? Posted from iPhone Date: 07/14/18 15:38 Re: Railfaning around Barbacena, MG (Brazil) Author: pedrop 9 - After a few minutes a pair of AC44i arrived leading an empty ore. Date: 07/14/18 16:04 Re: Railfaning around Barbacena, MG (Brazil) Author: pedrop The is a sign to give permission to enter a track occupied by another train of freight cars. Remember that the siding has GDT class cars parked there, so if a locomotive need to go there to catch them, it will find that third light Yellow. When the enginner finds this signal ON, he needs to call the CTC to confirm the operation and them go ahead with caution and prepared to stop. It is called Calling Signal.

Now I am at Antonio Carlos, a small town close to Barbacena. In a few minutes the first train came: an couple of C44EMi arrived with empty gondolas for iron cast.. Do not worry, the old man near the tracks is just taking care some horses nearby. Watch the video here www.youtube.com/watch?v=eqSYHWupmfY&t=14s

Date: 07/15/18 14:52 Re: Railfaning around Barbacena, MG (Brazil) Author: pedrop Back to Barbacena (FBC), I found SD40-3 5306 parked in a spur at the station yard. 5306 is former SP SD45R 8940, later 7475. It is the new MoW locomotive at FBC.

Pedro Rezende Vespasiano MG, https://youtube.com/c/minasgeraisrailways1 Date: 07/15/18 16:13 Re: Railfaning around Barbacena, MG (Brazil) Author: pedrop One of the Barbacena most famous icons is the stone arch railroad bridge built in the 1870's. In a supermarket near the station we can see old photos and a replica of it.
