Saturday April 13th was the 50th anniversary of the closure of the Brisbane Queensland tram/trolley system

standard gauge track  600v DC

An open day was held at the museum of trams in Brisbane over the weekend

here is a selection of what was in service

trams by number and entry to service

47 ..........1901
65............1921
341............1936
429..............1942
554................1964

65 uses Brill 21E trucks   the others were home built in Brisbane

554 was the last tramcar built for Brisbane and was in service only 5 years

i would guess  No.47 would be one of the world''s oldest electric tramcars in service  unless there are some in Britain 

what would be the oldest currently operational streetcar in North America be now ?

These tramcars operate every Sunday in Brisbane should any one be visiting this city,  and  have  a webpage   Brisbane Tramway Museum  for more information

That would be San Francisco Muicipal Railway #578, operational, and built in 1896:

A contender for the oldest would be Manx Electric Railway No.5 built in 1894 and still in daily revenue service. They have two cars built in 1893 but they are only used on special occasions. Of the 14 servicable cars only two were built in the 20th century in 1906.
