Rio Blanco Chile (Two U9Cs working)
Author: erielackawanna

Back on April 13 a railfan friend and I had chased a Los Andes to Rio Blanco train on the Transandine, when we jumped ahead to Rio Blanco. We arrived to find a second U9C being started up by a second crew.

Image one, FEPASA U9C 1820 waits in the yard.

Imge two, FEPASA U9C 1820 gets started up.

Image three, a crew member places a skate on a yard track to act as a physical brake.

Image four - the yard is full, loads on the left, unknown in the center, arriving empties on the right.

Image five - U9C 1820 pulls the empties up on the switchback line to Saladillo to give the other U9C clearance in the yard.

Image six - U9C 1821 heads by the roundtable as it builds a train of loaded pulls to bring back to Los Andes.

Image seven is the original passenger station.

Image eight is the control stand on 1820.

Image nine is 1820 with that night's train for Saladillo (they were not planning on leaving until after dark).

Image ten is of the train back to Los Andes crossing Rio Juncal. I'd blown this shot in the other direction and had to have it coming back (even though it was much darker on the return).
