FNS: a railroad divided by GE and EMD operators ( Brazil)
Author: pedrop

Hi, Ferrovia Norte Sul - FNS (North & South RR) is the newest railroad in Brazil. It was sold in auctions in two parts. VLI got the rights to operate the first section of 720 km linking Acailandia MA to Porto Nacional TO. It connects to Vale broad gauge system EFC (Carajas rr)  in Imperatriz MA.
The second section was sold in auction too, but Rumo railroad got the rights to operates the 1,500 km section from Porto Nacional to Estrela do Oeste SP. VLI is almost 100% EMD SD70ACe operator there, and Rumo is 100% GE, most of all AC44i.
So it will be  interesting to visit Porto Nacional in a future to see the location where the two railroads join. Rumo is just starting operating FNS now, sendibg old C30-7's to trst the tracks and customers loading facilities there.

The pic below shows SD70ACe's at Porto Nacional. The black one is Progress Rail leasing unit, while the one at left is an EMD leasing unit.

The area served by FNS is one of the hottest in Brazil.I really no not understand why Progress Rail paitend the leasing locomotives in black.
I will provide some side views of those SD70's.

If the engine is air conditioned the crews would not mind the black paint.
