Indian Railways Question
Author: MartyBernard

This train is in New Delhi, India in May 1981.  Can anyone read the Train Name Destination Board?

Thanks,
Marty

UP may stand for Uttar Pradesh - which is the state in India just to the east of New Delhi - where Agra, Varanasi etc are located.

I think up means just that, UP. In the other direction the board would read DOWN (DN). See picture from 2010.

Here's a pretty good explanation of Indian Railways' train symbols...

An explanation of "UP" and "DN" can be found near the bottom of the page.
