Zimbabwe steam 2017 video
Author: Harlock

I tried to post some video I shot in Zimbabwe in 2017 here, but it is 13 minutes in length whereas the limit here is 6 minutes.   It's also in 4K.    I don't think I'm allowed to link directly, but if you search for "Elephants on Rails" on that other video aggregation site, it will show up...

Best,

-Mike

Nice shot at Victoria Falls, a location that has always fascinated me.

I also checked out your video. Great footage !!

From this old time throttle jock from kiwi land, What an excellent video, brings back memories of trips to Australia and South Africa and the then Southern Rhodesia after those beasts.
To sit in the Garden at the "Victoria Falls Hotel" with a beer and watch a "15th' cross the bridge in 1973 just magic.

Wow, thanks!

Do you have a 2020 update about the status of steam in Zimbabwe?

Activity is now limited to very occasional tourist excursions out of Bulawayo using 15A 414 or 14A 519. Without external funding, it is unlikely that any of the several other locomotives stored in Bulawayo will see any further operation.

611, heavily featured in this video, has a bent boiler cradle and is being either scrapped or may have the power bogies re-used to make another engine eventually.

There was as of last year a dinner train out of Livingstone using steam. Equipment was obtained from Rovos Rail who is no longer allowed to use wood structure cars in SA on the main lines. Photo from 2011 follows.

Very nice video presentation, Mike.

My oldest daughter served there in the Peace Corps, but I never made it there myself to witness the great steam operations of the last century.
