Author: pedrop

Hi, Vale mining adapted a passenger train into a special hospital to attend the employees at Carajás mine in Açailandia, PA. That area is suffering with the lack of hospitals, so Vale decided do this special hospital to the employees in a first aid those employees with Covid19.

Pictures by Vale.

Is the train stationary in one location or is it designed to transport patients?

That is cool that they did that. I spent a week at the Carajás mine in 2004 and the people there were the most hospitable of anywhere I've been in the world and that's a lot of places. Actually, I enjoyed everywhere I went in Brazil, mostly Rio, Sao Paulo, Belem, Guaratingueta and Lorena.

Hi, the train moved from São Luís to Açailândia where it will be stationary.

It is nice to see that the Company cares for its employees. I don't know if that would happen anywhere in North America.  Congats to them.

Are Carajas miners being forced to work by Vale company during SARS-CoV-2/COVID-XIX pandemic?

Hi, I think that "forced" is not the correct word. The pandemic here is not so critical like the news say. Too many fake news on the fatalities with the intention to cause a political crisis here. Also, there are too many cases of corruption involving the money the government sent to states and cities to face the pandemic. The country can not stop and people wants to work and they can work if all the safety procedures are done.
Carajas mine complex is a modern mining plant where the automation of almost all activities is a reality. Those who are in the "risk" group are working at home.
Vale relocated many employees to other mines here in Minas Gerais to prevent too many people in just one area. People like to work with Vale and they do not want to lost their job if a big economic crisis affect the country. This could be worse than the pandemic.
