International Railway Stations Part 9
Author: andersonb109

The last of three in Sri Lanka. Kandy is located at the end of a branch line, and is famous among railway enthusiasts for it's huge remaining (at least as of last year) gantries guarding the entrance to the station. We spent hours out in the yard with no restrictions what so ever and no obnoxious safety vests, photographing the comings and goings of both our charter steam train and a slew of diesel service trains, watching the signals change positions as they passed.  Great for video.  There is also a giant Buddha across the street.

How about pix from the rail side of the station ?   The gantries are intriguing.

Use Google maps, search Kandy Railway Station, William Gopallawa Mawatha, Kandy, Sri Lanka, drag the street view icon onto the map. In addition to the blue lines for roads that have street view, there are several blue dots on the station tracks and leads. Each represents a 360 degree picture.
